I have been studying dance for seventeen years. I started learning tap and jazz at the age of three at the Cheryl McCormick Academy of Dance in New Bedford, MA. Remaining there for fifteen years, I studied Irish step dance, jazz, tap, contemporary, modern, African dance, and musical theater. After graduating high school, I continued my dance career as a competitive member of the UMass Amherst Ballroom Dance Team competing in the Latin, Rhythm, Standard and Smooth styles. During my first year as a member, I was the overall champion in Newcomer Standard and Latin at the 2013 Rhode Island College Collegiate Competition and most recently, I placed tenth in the Bronze Paso Doble at the 2014 MIT Ballroom Dance Competition. Finally, I stay busy as the President and Co-Captain of the UMass Amherst Belly Dancers. We are a performance group of over sixty active members and have performed for numerous venues including those at Harvard University, Westfield State University and of course all over UMass Amherst and the surrounding Amherst community.
