I have been dancing for 11 years, since I was 2, but seriously for the past 6 years. I study at The Pulse Performing Arts Studio and take classes in Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Progressions, Ballet, and Stretch and Strength. My top favorite is Tap followed by Hip Hop.
I have to acknowledge my mom and dad who own the studio and always support me as well as Rebecca Wassem who has coached me since I was 4 and rarely misses any of my performances. Dexter Jones is my tap teacher and he has taught me so much as well.
Mike Minery is someone I have looked up to since I was 6 and started attending Jump! I attend Slide, which is his summer program, every summer and had always wanted to work with him. To have him choreograph "Love Me or Leave Me" for me was so amazing and I can't wait to work with him again.
I love dancing in competitions and conventions and think the greatest benefit is the people I meet. I have friends who love what I do all over the country and know choreographers that are nominated for Emmy awards.
Dance is what makes me happy.
Once I graduate high school I'd like to attend a college program for Musical Theatre, hopefully The University of Michigan. After that I'd like to perform on Broadway or own my own tap dance performance company.
Thank you so much for this honor. I really appreciate it and am going to use the scholarship to attend another convention this coming season!
