I have been dancing for 12 years, since I was 3.  I have studied classical ballet for 12 years, jazz and modern for 8 years, and pointe for 4 years. I attend Bonita’s School of Ballet (BSOB) located in Monroe, NC and I have danced there throughout my entire dance career. I study classical ballet, modern, jazz, and pointe at BSOB. I also attend the high school Central Academy of Technology and Arts for dance, and I have been there only one year. I study ballet, and contemporary at my high school.

I would like to thank my dance teacher at Central Academy of Technology and Arts, Allison Cyphers.  I have been her student for only one year, but I have already learned from her so much.  She is helping me become a well-rounded dancer, and opening my eyes to a new style of contemporary dance that I have never been exposed to before.  Mrs. Cyphers taught me to be confident in my dancing.   I would also like to thank my ballet teachers for the last 12 years, Bonita Simpson and Tara Simpson Beaver.  I have been a student of theirs for my entire dance career.  They are the first people who exposed me to not only ballet, but dance in general.  They are the reason that I love ballet.  They gave me my passion for ballet, and helped to shape me into the person I am today.

The piece in the video was the piece that I used to audition for my current high school, Central Academy of Technology and Arts.  This was my first solo, and my first real audition.  Mrs. Tara SImpson Beaver choreographed it, and we worked on it for weeks before the audition.  The piece is contemporary ballet, which I was not used to at the time, so it was a little bit difficult trying to learn it.

I love dancing because it is a story without words.  You can tell a story and portray emotion without saying anything.  I especially love classical ballet because it is an art form that has survived for hundreds of years, and is still performed today.  I love how pure the art form is to its origin, but it is changing and becoming more modern at the same time.

I’m not exactly sure what I want to do after high school, but I do know that I want to be a professional dancer/choreographer.  I would like to be in a ballet company, and hopefully become a principal dancer one day.  Some of my dream companies are American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Houston Ballet.  I also would like to go to a college/conservatory for dance if I don't become a professional directly after high school.  I am interested in the Harid Conservatory and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.  I am going to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts summer intensive for the classical ballet program this summer, and I hope that this experience will help my make my decision.
