I study ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and modern dance. My favorite style of dance is tap. I have been dancing for 7 years at the Columbia City Jazz Company (CCJC) under the direction of Ms. Dale Lam.

I would like to acknowledge Ms. Dale and my tap teacher, Mr. James, for making it possible for me to compete and do my solo. Mr. James choreographed this solo, which is my first solo, and I’m hoping he is going to choreograph many more for me.

I think I inspire myself to dance because I like accomplishing tasks that I never thought I would be able to accomplish. This wouldn’t be possible, if it weren't for me believing in myself. What also inspires me to dance are my parents. They inspire me to dance because I want to make them happy by what I do. School is another one of the things that make my parents feel proud of me and I do well in it. But, I also love to dance and I want them to know I can be good in something else. This is why they inspire me to dance.

This piece that is presented in the video is my first solo called “Say My Name.” It is about someone who is tired of being treated wrong by the same person over and over again and is a tap piece. This solo was completely the total opposite of who I am as a person, but it was perfect for me because it has made me step out of my comfort zone. Being out of my comfort zone made me feel even better as I competed this dance because it made me want to do better.

I believe that the greatest benefit of conventions and competitions is taking classes. I think that taking classes is the greatest benefit because it helps me improve in the all the styles of dance and not just one. My future plans are to go to an Ivy League college after high school. My top choices are Harvard or University of Washington. I want to go to these schools to become a pediatrician.
