Viviane Lovato - March 2016 Judges' Choice

Thank you so much for your recognition and support! I am so excited and amazed to have won the Judges' Choice Award. I have been dancing for 9 years. I study at Ballet Center of Houston and I perform with a pre-professional training company called Houston Repertoire Ballet. I have studied modern, contemporary, jazz, Bollywood, and other forms of dance at various summer intensives. I enjoy all forms of dance!

Foremost, I would like to acknowledge Barbara LeGault, who coached me for Grand Pas Classique, as well as Victoria Vittum who is my director at Ballet Center of Houston. Also, I was fortunate enough to receive some coaching with Luis Fuente and Marybeth Arrington. I first learned the variation at a summer intensive and enjoyed it very much. I learned so much during the coaching and got to apply things that I had been working on over the summer. I liked that it required so much control, and therefore challenged me to find a balance between control and freedom of movement. I am still striving to find that balance in every step.

This summer I am excited to attend Kansas City Ballet's summer intensive for the first time. There is always so much to work on. However, as well as focusing on corrections given there, I'd like to focus on improving my overall flexibility, my posture, and where I direct the energy of my movement. Three years ago for my first summer intensive, I attended The Harid Conservatory; the last two years I have attended Houston Ballet's summer intensive and absolutely loved it! Each year, I also attend Ballet Center of Houston's summer intensive as well.

Dance itself inspires me to dance! It makes me so happy, and I love how much I can express through it and with it. The many things it requires mentally, physically, and emotionally teach me life lessons and help me to become a better person.

After graduating high school, I hope to join a company as a trainee or 2nd company member. From there, I would like to continue dancing professionally for as long as I can, working on new choreography as well as the classics. While I do have some favorite classical roles that I hope to get the opportunity to dance, I often find myself loving whatever role I'm dancing at the moment the most!
