Artistic director/teacher/choreographer Bradley Shelver, a native of South Africa, holds advanced diplomas in tap, jazz and ballet through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in London. He attended the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg and received his South African National Colors in Dance in 1996.
Bradley moved to New York on a full fellowship to the Ailey School, and subsequently danced as a soloist with the Ailey Repertory Company. He has also danced with Elisa Monte Dance, Complexions, Limon Dance Company, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and Phoenix Dance Theater in the UK. He guested in 1999 in a Carnegie Hall performance featuring opera great Jesse Norman, in the Radio City Christmas spectacular, and with the companies of Mark Morris, Lar Lubovich, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane, and more.
In 2002, Bradley was invited to perform Jiri Kylian's "The Blackbird Solo" for the 70th Anniversary of Jacobs Pillow, and also appeared in works by Angelin Preljocaj and Ohad Naharin. Adding to his dance talent, he was a principal dancer and singer in Javier De Frutos' "Cattle Call," on its UK tour.
As a choreographer, Bradley has created works for Cedar Lake 2, MAS Milan (Italy), OURE Contemporary Dance (Denmark), Compania Rio Danca (Brazil), Svenska Ballet (Goteborg), Cape Dance Company (South Africa), Ballet Austin, and more. His teaching credits have also taken him around the world, and include the Alteballeto Festival in Italy, Bartholin Ballet Festival in Copenhagen, the Laban Centre in London, and as company teacher for Mathew Bourne's "Adventures in Motion Pictures" and Phoenix Dance Theater in the UK.
He is co-founder and Artistic Director of Bradley Shelver Contemporary Dance Theater, founded in 2003; Artistic Director and a curator for REVERBdance; and the newly appointed Artistic Director of Steps Repertory Ensemble.
