Madison Winter – December 2013 Viewers’ Choice Winner

Thank you so much for this opportunity and award!  I am 16 years old.  I have been dancing since I was 2 years old.  Currently, I study at the Ballet Academy of Texas where I am a company member of the Ballet Ensemble of Texas.

The Ballet Academy’s focus is on classical ballet technique, which has provided me with a strong foundation for all other dance forms.  My training includes pointe, pas de deux, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, Pilates and yoga.  I have learned so much from my director, Lisa Slagle and my ballet instructor, Jenny Johnston.  They provide the encouragement I need to accomplish more as a dancer both technically and mentally.

Tammie Reinsch choreographed my contemporary solo, “Truth” for the 2013 Youth America Grand Prix Regionals.  She teaches contemporary, modern, tap, and jazz at the Ballet Academy.  Ms. Tammie mentors me and inspires me to embrace who I am and how I move as an artist. Working with her is a true love and joy of mine.  I had the fortune of finishing 1st in the Senior Division for Contemporary at YAGP at the Dallas Regionals in February 2013.

Other accomplishments include the 2010 Youth America Grand Prix Top 12 in the Junior Division for Classical Ballet and 3rd overall for Contemporary.  With the demanding rehearsal and performance schedules for the Ballet Ensemble, there is little time to participate in conventions and competitions.  However, I did receive the NYCDA Junior Outstanding Dancer in 2009 and Junior Outstanding Dancer Runner Up in 2010.

Although I enjoy all forms of dance, contemporary is my passion.  I look forward to dancing in college and then joining a professional contemporary ballet company.
