Hi, I am Jessica Kinnaman, age 14 from Charles Town, WV. I began dancing at the age of four, but started taking ballet seriously at the age 10. I am currently a student in the Professional Training Program at the Akhmedova Ballet Academy (ABA) and dedicate five days per week training toward my goal of becoming a professional ballerina. My curriculum includes classes in technique, pointe, repertoire, contemporary, character and Pilates. I am thrilled to be training with Jacqueline Akhmedova, director of ABA located in Silver Spring, MD. I believe Mme. Akhmedova can take me to the level necessary to enter a professional ballet company after graduation just like four of her graduating seniors did this past year! ABA has a unique training program that allows me to get the strict Vaganova training I need along with the personalized, close attention from Mme. Akhmedova. In the past I have attended summer programs at the Kirov Academy of Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. I have also auditioned and was offered spots at other summer intensives such as American Ballet Theater and School of American Ballet.
I went to my first ballet competition last year, Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP), Atlanta Regionals. I was overjoyed to place in the Top 12 in my Classical solo and also placed in the Top 12 for an ensemble I danced with a classmate of mine. It was exciting to be a part of the NYC YAGP Finals where we were able to perform the ensemble piece. I have plans to attend the YAGP Pittsburgh Regional Finals in January. The experience will allow me to compare myself with other dancers from the US.
I want to thank The World Dances and Harlequin Floors for this wonderful opportunity and scholarship. It will enhance and support my dream of becoming a professional dancer.
