Alexis Amos – Viewers’ Choice Winner April 2013
I have been dancing for 6 years. I started late at the age of 15 years old. The choreographer of the dance in my video is Leah Twilley. I met Leah at The Ballet Studio in Milton, LA when I first started dancing. She is an amazing choreographer, teacher, and friend. I study all types of dance but my favorites are ballet and modern. I love the challenge of ballet. Even though I started taking pointe when I was 16 years old I loved it because it made me feel so elegant and graceful. My future plans are to audition for ballet and modern companies after I graduate college.
My family, friends, boyfriend and his family are always motivating me to keep striving for my dreams. Someone who really inspires me to dance is Misty Copeland. I love her drive and focus and I aspire to be at that level someday. I am an exercise science major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and I also perform in the dance department's performances every year.
In high school I was part of the performing arts academy that was taught by Lasonya Johnson. This is my fifth year at The Ballet Studio in Lafayette, La. The director, Beverly Spell runs a program called LeapNLearn and we are also an Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy. After training at her studio for just a year I was accepted into the Alvin Ailey 2009 summer intensive and fell in love with modern. One of my latest accomplishments is being able to perform my first lead role in a ballet this summer and I am so grateful. I give all thanks to God and my amazing support system.
